Hydrogen Gas Sensing
AppliedSensor’s highly selective, fast-responding hydrogen sensor technology ensures safety of tomorrow's hydrogen-based economy.
Volatile political conditions, as well as concerns over rising oil prices, have focused worldwide attention on hydrogen as an alternative fuel source. Both the U.S. government and the European Union have earmarked billions of dollars to accelerate the development of tomorrow’s “hydrogen economy.” This economy has the potential to offer a readily renewable source of energy in the form of clean power generated from hydrogen, benefiting the automotive, industrial, commercial, residential and consumer markets.
Unfortunately, wherever hydrogen is produced or consumed, there is an inherent danger of explosion. To mitigate this danger, AppliedSensor has developed a highly selective and fast-responding hydrogen sensor module for detecting hydrogen gas.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles are a particularly exciting application and an important market for AppliedSensor. To detect gas leaks, this application will require placing our modules on board the vehicle, as well as in and around the fueling station. Other applications include fuel cell efficiency and exhaust gas monitoring. Unlike some sensors that have severe cross sensitivity to a variety of combustible gases, AppliedSensor’s field effect technology ensures our modules are highly selective to hydrogen gas, without interference from background gases or water vapor.
AppliedSensor’s hydrogen module, the HY platform, enables developers to proceed with their design of hydrogen-fueled products, secure in the knowledge that an effective leak-detection device that ensures the safety of hydrogen fuel users has already been commercialized.
