AppliedSensor Air Quality Modules Installed in Chicago Museum of Science and Industry Ensure Restroom Patrons Enjoy Clean, Healthy Air
Warren, New Jersey - June 28, 2010 - AppliedSensor, a designer and manufacturer of chemical sensor components and intelligent indoor air quality (iAQ) modules, announced today that Sloan Valve Company has installed AppliedSensor’s Indoor Air Quality Modules in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago (MSI Chicago). The modules have been built into the ceiling of each of the museum’s new restrooms as part of the Sloan Monitoring System. The partnership between the three organizations ensures that the museum’s new restrooms circulate clean air, free from harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
“When it comes to the Museum’s facilities, we are always thinking of how we can create a great guest experience, while still maintaining efficiency and an eco-friendly environment,” said the Museum Director of Facilities J. Jeffrey Johnson. “These new restrooms were created to meet all those criteria.”
Restroom odors and vapors are the result of VOCs from sources such as human bio-effluents and cleaning supplies. VOCs can make indoor air smell unpleasant and can also be harmful to an occupant’s health. Unfortunately, many traditional CO2 air monitors cannot detect VOCs. Each AppliedSensor Indoor Air Quality Module monitors restroom air quality and signals when VOCs are detected and air quality changes. This information is displayed on a computer dashboard in a remote control room. Green indicates healthy air quality; yellow indicates a slight change and red signals unpleasantly high levels of VOCs. Analyzing this data enables MSI Chicago to provide patrons with a pleasant restroom experience and reduces facilities costs, as restroom servicing is performed when needed, instead of only on a preset schedule.
